The Handcrafted Geodesic Home

This handcrafted Geodesic structure is located just outside of San Francisco. It was built by a couple: Shelia Williamson and her husband using reclaimed wood. They spent over seven years to build this Geodesic structure. (Geodesic structure is a lightweight dome constructed of interlocking polygons, invented by R. Buckminster Fuller).

The couple designed the structure with the help of an engineer; they built the 3-sphere, 2 bedrooms, and 2 bathroom home by themselves. The couple got their inspiration from the work of famed Architect and inventor Buckminster Fuller.

The structure is a 1,700 square feet and made up of three Geodesic domes, embedded into a green-filled landscape. The material the couple used in building their home was from a nearby demolished warehouse. The couple created the dome shape by cutting the triangular panel by hand.
The structure has a beautiful handcrafted stained glass accent throughout the structure. The Neighbourhood children helped out during the construction process.

The front entrance opens into the living space which has an open kitchen, office and loft. The largest dome houses these spaces.
The interior space has a large window, which has fourteen triangular panels, as well as a pentagonal skylight in the dome’s ceiling. On the upper floor have the two smaller geodesic spaces which contains the bedrooms.

The master bedroom has a skylight and a private deck that overlooks the serene environment. The house has been put on the market after the passing away of Williamson’s husband.

  1. Did they actually use their hands and 'claws'to cut the triangular panels for the dome shape...thinking!
