International Conference Centre Dakar, Senegal

The International Conference Centre is located in Dakar, the capital city of Senegal.  The centre was designed by Tabanlioglu Architects a Turkish studio. The building was completed in 2015 and it covers an area of 16.270 square meters.

The building is surrounded with water with this; a floating feeling is achieved with the effect of three-dimensional effect of a semi-transparent mesh metal over the surrounding reflection pool. Thus it gives a dramatic illustration with the sea breeze sailing through the façade.

The structure is accessed through different entries. On the North has the service entrance. The presidential entrance leads to main conference hall, a rectangular space at the first floor. On the West-side of the structure, is where the public entrances are, through the public restaurants and before the open air fair zone and adjacent to the press and administration building. The East end of the complex has the VIP entrance.

There is something very unique about the structure; and that is the use of Baobab tree as materials for constructing the roof. The Baobab trees in Senegal are distinctive with its enormous girth. These trees has a massive trunks can grow to circumferences of 25meters or more.
The huge rectangular roof was constructed from the expansive branches of native Baobab trees to create nice pattern. The roof is provide a similarly function to the voluminous canopies of these culturally significant natural feature.

For the cooling of the temperature in the interior, a reflective pool under the shaded roof is to welcome breeze into the centre.
The building has a mixture of metal, glazing and mesh as aesthetic elements.
