M.Y Village Baptist Church is located in Tiachung City,
Tawian and the project was designed by JYC Architects + DCDAssociates. The project
was completed in 2016 and it covers an area of 1350.0sqm.
The first floor of the building has the auxiliary space. The
second and third floor is the main Auditorium and Mezzanine seating, while on
the fourth floor is the pastor residence.
This structure is not the typical vaulted roof or having
an attached tower, or the plan is design with a symmetrical pattern accommodating
a nave, aisle and transept of an Orthodox Church building.
However this church design has different volume shaped but it is
distinguished as a church building with its illuminating cross, which is placed
high on the main volume central mass.
Unlike the Orthodox Church building that has large,
semi-circular or pointed arch stained windows; the M.Y Village Baptist Church
has on its western façade small punched windows and slanted walls, thus
allowing light to pass through tinted glazing. This tinted glaze tends to burst
technicolour shades light into the building. This style was influenced by
modernist Le Corbusier’s work at the chapel in Ronchamp.
Behind the south façade, has the main stairs which leads
to the Auditorium and the third floor. At the place where the stair are found,
has two-storey vertical coloured glazing, and a skylight welcomes the morning
sun as the worshippers ascending to their hall of faith.
At the stair area, it is well illuminated during the day
time through the long vertical glass and at night it is illuminated with long
small diameter pendant light.
