Plastic made Tower of Hope

In Spaza Art Garden, Troyevillie, Johannesburg South Africa, is a 20m high cellular Tower made from 7000 plastic recycled bottles. The project was inspired in 2013 by a street Artist r1 and his friend Issac, and it was officially opened in July 2016.

The permanent plastic tower is named “iThemba Tower”, the name iThemba means Trust and Hope. The name was taking from an isiZulu word.
The project is aimed at to raise awareness the importance of recycling through workshop and various community activities.

To create a dramatic impression and translate the concept of hope into reality; LEDs were also inserted inside the bottles to turn them into “lights of hope”, thus creating a magical twinkling effects at night.
