Enjoy Concrete Company building is located in Veurne, Belgium
and it is the new headquarters of a Belgian concrete company. It was designed
by Govaert and Vanhoutte Architects. It covers an area of 6974.0m². Project
year 2014.
The company is into pre-fabricated concrete blocks, and
the client wanted the building to showcase what they do. The concept was
translated on the façade of the concrete slabs and windows, each measuring 6 by
3 meters. The cantilevered volume anchored into an internal concrete stairs,
giving it a simple proportionality to the building.
The building has a production hall, storage, office
spaces are in front of the building. It is a four level building. Lights are
allowed into the building and it is also visibility onto the main road. The building
is situated at a strategic point between an industrial estate and a green
canal; the concept is they want the building to be noticed by passing traffic
and also become a transition from green to industrial.
The building long volume was made out of a lighter steel
structure, allowing large windows on the south west façade. A counter weight
for the long cantilever is created by an internal steel structure that is
anchored into the concrete staircase.
On the façade it is characterized by a pattern image; of
a beautiful treeline along the canal “Damse Vaart” on the prefab slabs through
the application of the “Graphic concrete” procedure.
This procedure is a digital image broken down into big
dots, thus making the total pictures becomes clear only from a distance. There is
a reflection of nature across the street and canal on the façade of the
building.
